Ich grolle nicht (from Dichterliebe Op. 48) by Robert Schumann. High Voice and Piano. German. Intermediate. MCL689a

Schumann composed 'Ich grolle nicht' on May 25, 1840 after a poem by Heinrich Heine to include it in his song cycle Dichterliebe (A Poet's Love). This song was performed for the first time in public in December 1844 by German soprano Livia Frege accompanied on the piano by Clara Schumann. The lied met with such success that it was published separately only a few months after the publication of the whole. According to the composer, each song of the cycle forms in itself a whole that can be executed individually. This edition is taken from the complete song cycle published in the Muzibook Classical Library catalog on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Schumann’s birth.
