5 Lieder by Richard Wagner. Song cycle. High Voice. Soprano. German. Advanced. MCL841

The passionate love of Richard Wagner and Mathilde Wesendonck was certainly the main source of inspiration for the famous Wesendonck-Lieder. According to the composer, each artist has the right to a muse. Mathilde was the wife of the wealthy merchant Otto Wesendonck, who himself appreciated and financially supported Wagner's music. As platonic as it surely was, the relationship between Mathilde and Wagner lasted until Minna, his wife, discovered a letter from Mathilde. The cycle was composed between November 1857 and May 1858 and published at the publisher Schott in Mainz in 1862 under the title ‘’Five poems for female voice with piano accompaniment’’.
