What are good finger speed technques for piano/organ?
I am new to playing piano and was wondering what are good ways to build finger speed; my fingers are not very long. I am kind of a beginner and was wondering any techniques or drills that increase the nerve reaction in the fingers and hands. Also, I dislocated the knuckle in my right ring finger a few years back and it is still not back, should I have this fixed? It hasn't decreased the mobility by a lot but if I got this fixed would I be able to play quicker?
You practice finger movement not only on the piano, but also while watching boring TV shows, having a ride in somebody else's car, and etc...
Not on piano:
1. both hands: grab exercise with squeeze motion on knuckles. Slow first then go faster and faster
2. separate fingers: plucking motion on knuckles only
3. Gradual motion: straighten each finer while folding pinky towards the palm, gradually followed by the fourth, the third, and the second. Make it fast
On the piano:
1. 5 finger exercise: just 5 notes anywhere on the keyboard with all 5 fingers next to one another. Grab each note and play INTO the KEYS. Play it loud , a few times. Then play it soft a few times. Then soft to loud a few times. Then, loud to soft a few times. Then, use different rhythm such as long, short, long, short, long..... then reverse short, long, short, long, short, for each note
2. scales: watch out the thumb under notes. Your elbow needs to move outward when the thumb is under
3. Find book series "A Dozen A day." It looks so simple and easy, but if you do it a dozen a day properly, your fingers would be very good at piano.
