How long will it take me to play guitar proficiently?
How long do you think it will take me to play guitar proficiently? I have bought myself a set of play metal guitar by rock house method beginner - advance. I currently have gone through 10 lessons in 5 days and play about 5-10 hours a day. (Mostly around 7-9) I can play minor pentatonic scales at 80 BPM and some exercises on the DVD at 120-140 BPM with few mistakes. I have a strict playing schedule and am very dedicated. I even tend to drool a bit because of my focus, lol.
I consider playing proficiently to be switching frets at a pretty fast tempo (120-160) with fair picking skills. Firm understanding of most scales, chords tunings and riffs. And overall sound good with of course a few mistakes here and there but nothing practice can't remove.
Excellent, Keep the drive. I would say it will take you a year, if you keep the consistent drive up, to be a proficient guitar player. DON"T SKIMP ON THE Music Theory! There is always more to learn and it can take a decade of constant practice to "master" the guitar.
I would also suggest taking guitar lessons with a teacher, this will always improve your skill level, as they will be able to see things your doing wrong and tailor to your abilities.
Also I suggest checking this site out and going through all the lessons...it is in my opinions the best site for Electric Guitar lessons for beginners.
